Palestinian Information Center - Oct 1, 2007
PA chief Mahmoud Abbas announced his refusal to participate in any national unity government with Hamas under any circumstances in the future, thus balking all the Palestinian and Arab efforts exerted to end the crisis plaguing the Palestinian arena.
Abbas's position follows Hamas's repeated calls for the need to return to unconditional dialogue to end the inter-Palestinian crisis; Abbas, however, insists on refusing those calls and keeps on meeting Israeli officials whose troops kill Palestinian people on daily basis.
In a statement to the Washington Post newspaper, Abbas stated that the PA and Fatah faction will not take part alongside Hamas in any national unity government under any circumstances.
The PA chief alleged that the coup (elimination of the security chaos in the Gaza Strip which was caused by the PA security apparatuses) by Hamas should be reversed and that the movement must restore the previous status quo before opening any dialogue with it.
The PA chief also expressed his support for the American boycott against Hamas, saying: "My position towards Hamas now conforms to the position of Washington" particularly as the United States considers the Hamas-led Gaza Strip a hostile entity.
Hamas and the caretaker government had confirmed that the PA chief does not represent the Palestinian people in any negotiations with the Israeli occupation, accusing him of seeking to liquidate the Palestinian cause and to waive the constants of Palestinian people.
