Shalamcheh, the border between Iran and Iraq has been named the 'friendship border' to honor the sixth day of Sacred Defense week.

In addition, the cities of Khorramshahr in Iran and Basra in Iraq were called 'brother cities'. The move was hailed by officials from both countries, to show age-old amity between two nations, while Iran commemorates the anniversary of the eight-year Iraqi imposed war.

Iraq launched war against Iran in 1980 due to poor political judgment and miscalculation of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

The port city of Khorramshahr in southern Iran and Iraq's main port Basra become brother cities to foster human and cultural links between the nations of the two neighboring Muslim countries.
